“Never Again is Now” is a site specific installation at Southern Exposure by Related Tactics that responds to the visual and political environment in the Fall of 2020 leading into the US elections. The project calls on histories of protest as they intersect with the ongoing struggle for racial justice. The piece interrogates the ways our current socio-political moment is both a consequence and reflection of the past while also being an imaginative symptom of many possible futures. Drawing from histories of protest and its visual culture, the installation, viewable from the sidewalk of Southern Exposure, explores the relationships between social movements and interrogates the ways our current socio-political moment is both a consequence and reflection of the past.

The installation is presented in conjunction with Aram Han Sifuentes and The Official Unofficial Voting Station: Voting for All Who Legally Can’t to envision a world where past, present, and future are aligned and include the voices of all of our community members. The installation also includes some of Aram’s Protest Banners, including the large ILRC red card banner in the doorway visible in these images.

The overarching installation also builds on SoEx’s role as a polling location in this election season, reflecting upon this critical moment within the longer trajectory of community history and struggle.
