Kuroshio no mabui is a sculptural research project reflecting on islands, monuments, and cultural exchange & reconciliation at the edges of empire. Through installation and drawings, I have been delving into the relationship between Okinawa and Taiwan, the artifacts of imperial violence and extraction in their landscapes, and the cultural, anthropological, and ecological linkages that offer possibilities for connection beyond colonial conflict and bounds of nationalism.

Kuroshio no mabui was created through a 2022 project space residency at Headlands Center for the Arts.
