This installation is an update and integration of two projects from 2013 that explored stories of place from the perspective of people (both willingly and unwillingly) dislocated from that locale: “From a land of low lying clouds (18+18)” and “9th island and other lands.” This series of projects explore the culture, exchanges, and power dynamics in the Hawai’i community outside of the islands, especially the continental US, through objects and symbols that stand in for the individual relationships (or lack thereof) to a distant home.

This iteration of the work is featured in “Hydrarchy: Power, Globalization, and the Sea” an exhibition, film series, and public program organized by Mark Johnson and the San Francisco State University Fine Arts Gallery based on an idea conceptualized by Michael Arcega.
