Related Tactics: Thick Solidarity at the Lucas Artists Program at Montalvo Arts Center (8/1-9/11)
It’s been a busy but exciting few weeks with the rest of Related Tactics and the amazing artists we’ve gathered to spend time with us in-residence at the Lucas Artists Program (LAP) of Montalvo Arts Center. The LAP team commissioned us to organize a CoLAB residency session–a program series in which they are turning over the artist selection, theme, and approach to artists/collaborative teams over the next two years. We decided to invite two cohorts of amazing artists of color to spend time with us around the theme of “Thick Solidarity,” a concept proposed by cultural theorists Rosanne Liu and Savannah Shange.
It’s been a tremendous privilege to spend this kind of time with artist and cultural organizer colleagues whose work we admire, including: Erina Alejo, Holly Bass, Alexa Burrell, Sonia Guiñansaca, Nicole Marroquin, Qianjin Montoya, Terisa Siagatonu, Charisse Pearlina Weston, Gisela Insuaste, Mia Nakano, Raissa Simpson, Astria Suparak, and Helen Shewolfe Tseng.
