essay: Where shall we go from here?, YBCA Zine
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’ Zine just published my essay, Where Shall We Go From Here? reflecting on home and memory through my research into the visual language and history of the Ward development in Honolulu. The piece builds on the work that I did for expansion (land.water.sky) last year. It was commissioned by curator Lian Ladia for her YBCA fellowship project series “If a tree falls” alongside Bindlestiff Studio’s podcast, FOBcast, and a piece she collaborated on with Erina Alejo called “Plants Have Feelings.”
Many thanks to Lian for commissioning the piece, Anna Lisa Escobedo and Minerva Ramirez at YBCA for their support in pushing it along, Michele Carlson for feedback, and the VCS program at CCA for the spark of the Alumni Award last year that supported the original writing at the base of this piece.
